Be the change you want to see: workshops and training from the REACH TEAM
A creative collision of conversation, interaction, workshops and keynote speakers from across the UK on all things Fresh Expressions and pioneering. A space to hear stories of what God is doing in the community and explore the stories that you want to be part of. This day will be great for anyone interested in finding out more about Fresh Expressions, those already actively involved, as well as leaders who want to make more space for creative Fresh Expressions of church in their locality.
Keynotes will include:
Jonny Baker founded and leads the pioneer training at church mission society Church Mission Society – his main focus has been around innovative pioneer mission training, engaging with all sorts of creative pioneer ministry around the UK.
Steve Collins is a long term member of the Grace Community in London and runs the smallritual.org website. He treats the church as a design problem, takes things apart, looks at the pieces and sees if it can be assembled in different ways responding to emerging contexts and imagining alternative futures. Steve will also be running a workshop.
Charis Robertson is part of one of the most creative and innovative youthwork projects in the UK, Hot Chocolate Trust Dundee, she has recently completed research around story telling and the power of real life stories and as well as taking part in the keynote sessions will be running a workshop around this with some members of the community from Hot Chocolate. Steve, Jonny and Charis will be helping us rediscover some of the radical routes of Fresh Expressions that were birthed in missional youthwork, emerging church and the alternative worship movement, and how we can keep moving forward together as we discover what God is doing in our communities.
When the church has left the building/outdoor Fresh Expressions – An experiential workshop exploring outdoor based Fresh Expressions of church such as Mountain Pilgrims, and how you can run similar Fresh Expressions in your area.
Is God networking? – A workshop exploring the rise of network based Fresh Expressions in Cumbria, why they are important and how they can support Fresh Expressions in rural areas.
Child Spirituality and Fresh Expressions – Exploring child spirituality and how we can use our existing connections with children e.g. after schools clubs, Messy Church, to genuinely grow church from scratch with children in the community.
Child Spirituality part 2. – For those who have attended the Child Spirituality and Fresh Expressions sessions throughout the year who want to go deeper and workshop together what this needs to look like in your context.
Rethinking buildings – A session with Steve Collins looking at buildings as possible networks and how we could radically re-think our approach to how we use the resources around us.
Fresh Expressions part 1 – An introductory session exploring what a Fresh Expression is and how to get one started in your area.
Fresh Expressions part 2 – Building on the first session, a chance to workshop together ideas that might be possible in your area, explore ways to research the community and creatively seek out what God might be doing in your community.
Maranatha Yoga – Building on the success of it’s launch in 2016, a taster session for those interested in finding out more. Please bring appropriate clothing and a yoga mat or beach towel with you.
Food glorious food – This session will explore developing Fresh Expressions based around food, building on the success of things like The Biker Breakfast at Torver, Lost on a Mountain cafe in Carlisle and Haven in the Op Shops.
Stories – This session will explore how we can use storytelling practices in our contexts (FX or otherwise) to learn, explore truth, expose power, promote healing, build peace, grow community, shape identity, clarify vision, and help identify where Jesus is at work in our midst.
NB Workshops will be run based on demand, and we reserve the right to remove some workshops if there is not sufficient interest. If you are interested in one of these workshops but are unable to attend the FX day – please email firstname.lastname@example.org
