Reflections on an ordination weekend

Good food and a friendly chat make a service really work.  And so it was at both of the ordination services last weekend.

The cathedral introduced refreshments before the service on Saturday afternoon, and with videos showing relating to work in the diocese from the last year, a friendly and happy atmosphere started proceedings, one person commented that it was like being in a cosy living room.

One strong impression of the service that remains with me is that when people came to receive Holy Communion, most were smiling….how lovely!

On the Sunday our deacon was ordained at the church in which she will serve, St James, Whitehaven. It was a lovely service led by Bishop Robert (on the 40th anniversary of his own ordination to the diaconate). Again it included food, after the service we had an excellent lunch in the community centre.

Food and hospitality are such an important part of our mission, and may this continue to flourish.
